William "Bill" Woods, age 85 passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 at his home in Kerrville, TX.
Mr. Woods was born December 19, 1929 in Springfield, MO the son of Robert and Edith Woods. He moved with his family to Colorado Springs in 1937 and graduated Palmer High School in Colorado Springs in 1948. On New Year's Eve, 1949 he married Wanda Leah Barham and in 1950, he started working with Maytag Aircraft Corp. in Colorado Springs. In 1951, Bill was transferred to Belleville, IL for 2 months and then to Houston for 2 years. In 1955 he was sent to Germany to manage Refueling Operations at 3 US Air Force bases for Maytag Aircraft. Bill moved back to the home office in Colorado Springs in 1958 as Vice President in charge of operations. He continued in this capacity and also served as President of the Maytronics division of the Corporation. Bill retired from Maytag Aircraft in 1981.
Outside of work, Bill was active in the community through his church and The Sertoma Club of which he was a past-President. In 1982, Bill served as business manager of the First Christian Church in Colorado Springs and also worked as a Development Officer for Phillips University covering the Colorado, Wyoming and Western Nebraska region. Retiring again in 1990, Bill had some health problems to conquer. In 1994, he moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ and lived there for 11 years where he was active in the community and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Bill and Wanda moved to Kerrville in 2005.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Wanda, two daughters: Diane L. French, Carol L. Collins and husband, Michael, four grandchildren: William French, Brian French and wife, Gail, Lauren Collins-George and husband, Doug, Russell Collins and wife, Michelle, seven great-grandchildren: Will French, Donovan French, Ethan French, Adrian George, Lincoln George, Gwendolyn Collins and Catherine French. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert J. Woods and a sister, Betty Collier.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the First Christian Church on Goat Creek Road in Kerrville, TX. The family will have a private interment. The family request memorials in William's name to a charity of choice.
