Kerrville, TX Ret. Police Officer William Hughes Moore, Jr., 63, passed from this life at a San Antonio hospital on Saturday, November 24, 2007. nbspnbspnbspnbspnbsp Born December 24, 1943 in Refugio, TX, he was the son of William Hughes and Doris Marie Linney Moore. He was a resident of Kerrville coming here from St Louis, MO. He attended Our Lady of Refuge Grade School and Refugio High School. He attended Forest Park Community College and earned an AA in one year. He continued his education at Truman State University and in 1976 received a BS. In 1979 he earned his MA under the GI Bill.Mr. Moore served in the US Army then moved to St. Louis. He was a member of the VFW Post 2177 Meramec River Post in Fenton, MO, a life membership, was a member of the VVA, Vietnam Veterans of America, the War Veterans Club of MO, MO Past Commanders Club and the VDHA Vietnam Dog Handlers Association. He then went to St Louis MO and joined the police department in November 1966. While on the SLPD, he was in the Traffic Division from 19701980, and was in the 8th district from 19801990. In 1990, he transferred to the 2nd district. In 1996, Mr. Moore was transferred to the Auto Theft Section a downtown detective, and retired from police service there in 2001. He was a corrections officer for Kerr County Juvenile Center.While in St Louis, Mr. Moore was a member of the St Louis Police Post 187 from 19742006 when he transferred his membership to the Kerrville Post 208. In 1988, he was awarded the PUFL Paid Up For Life from St Louis Post 187, where he held Post Commander in 1980 and for 14 years was Post Adjutant and ran the dunking booth.He was a member of the 408 and joined the Voiture Locale 38. working his way through the chairs and was Conductor, Commisaire Intendant, Chef de Train then Chef de Gare in 1993, Most of his time in the Voiture, he was a member of the Cheminot board of ors, was a Chef de Gare, Locale to represent your Voiture at Grand, and ended up being elected Grand Chef de Gare du Missouri in 1999.Family members include his wife, Joanne Lodise Moore of Kerrville 3 sons and daughtersinlaw, William Hughes IV and Debbie Marie, Richard Earl Moore and Maureen Lee of St. Louis, and John Preston Moore and Meghan Marie, and daughter and soninlaw, Jane Marie Conversi and Brian Douglas, and Jacob Holmes, all of St. Louis, MO granddaughter Kaitlyn grandsons, Justin Taylor, Ethan Cash, Mason Lee, Alfred Hughes, Edward James, Jacob and Shane, all of St Louis his mother and stepfather, Doris Marie and Dr. Fred Zellner of Fredericksburg stepsons, Wayne Scott Widmann and Victor Scott Widmann both of TX Joseph Scott Widmann of PA and stepdaughter, Valarie Widmann of Tobyhanna, PA stepgrandson, Elijah Scott of PA 5 brothers, John Linney Moore of Toms River, NJ, Richard Sellers Moore of Goliad, TX, Thomas Charles Moore of Corpus Christi, TX, Michael Edward Moore of Trenton, NJ, and Harry Anthony Moore of Houston, TX 3 sisters, Letha Ann Kieffer of Red Rock, TX, Phoebe Fue Wilson of Santa Fe, NM and Jane Eleanor Moore of Austin and many nieces and nephews. ation will be at the Kerrville Funeral Home, Wednesday evening November 28, 2007 from 48PM.Interment with full military honors will be held at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio at 9:30AM on Thursday, November 29, 2007. nbspnbspnbspnbspnbsp Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Nurses Training Voiture Post 208, Kerrville.
