Victoria, Texas Willa Rogers Avara, 92, of Victoria, Texas and formerly of Kerrville, Texas passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at her residence in Victoria, Texas. Mrs. Avara was born on January 8, 1911 in Mart, Texas to the late Eugene Henderson and Nellie Cummings Rogers. Mrs. Avara married her husband, Guy E. Avara on August 10, 1932 in Marlin, Texas. She worked as a Bank Teller early in her career, and in 1952 she started to work for Union Carbide Corporation in Texas City, Texas, where she retired in January 1973 as a records supervisor in the plant managers department. She was a charter member of the Kerrville Trailblazers, a member of Houston Happy Hikers, and several San Antonio walking clubs.She was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kerrville. Since moving several years ago, she became a member of Grace Presbyterian Church of Victoria, Texas.Mrs. Avara was preceded in death by her parents husband, Guy E. Avara brothers, Clyde E. and Cecil Rogers and sisters, Imogene Rogers Clare and Doris Rogers Manor.Survivors include her niece, Linda Clare Lanier nephewinlaw, W. Scott Lanier nephews, Bill Roger Clare and Charles Rogers great nephew and wife, Steven Scott and Kathy Lanier numerous great nieces and nephews along with a host of many loving friends and neighbors.A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 18, 2003 at 11 AM at the Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Fultz officiating. Private Interment will precede the Memorial Service. There will be open visitation through Friday evening.The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, 3604 N. Ben Jordan, Victoria, Texas 77901.Arrangements are under the direction of Kerrville Funeral Home.
