Lon Owens, age 75, of Center Point, died Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San Antonio. He was born on November 27, 1927 in Belton, Texas to A. Lon Owens and Abbie Addeane Hunt Owens. Lon served in the Navy during WWII as a Seaman 2nd Class in the Pacific Theatre. After the war he went to work for El Paso Natural Gas were he worked in west Texas and New Mexico for many years. Lon had lived in Kerrville in the early 1960s before moving to California. After leaving the gas industry, Lon and his family did return to the Kerrville area in 1969. He was a paint contractor by trade but decided to open and ran a bar here called Lons Place. He then opened a second bar, Lons Place 2, in Center Point.Lon was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Jal, NM and Center Point, Texas and the American Legion in Kerrville. Early in Lons retirement, he enjoyed fishing and hunting although his true love was meeting people. Lon never met a stranger.He is preceded in death by his wife, Maebelle Owens in 1985.Lon is survived by 2 daughters, Connie Recupero and husband Tony of Redding, CA Beverly Davison of Pomona, CA son David Owens of Texas 6 grandchildren, Cindy, Amanda, Amy, Cortney, Lee Anne, and Joshua sisters, Oleane Rode and Linnie Lkinzing both of Cuero, Texas as well as 7 greatgrandchildren and numerous nephews and greatnieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Lons memory to the Masonic Childrens Fund.ation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursday, July 10, 2003 at Kerrville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. at Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
