Whitmal Scrogin Snyder left his world from the comfort of her home and family Friday, June 30, 2017 at the age of 84. She was born the youngest child of Jewell Smith Scrogin and John Herbert Scrogin in Houston, TX on November 18, 1932.
Whit met Barton Haschke Snyder, the love of her life, when they were in middle school. They married in 1951, set sail for Hawaii with the Navy, and started a family. He preceded her in death, but left her with the unconditional love that built their family. She leaves behind three sons and their wives; David and Deanna Snyder, Mark and Lezlie Snyder and Paul and Dayna Snyder. She also leaves behind the heart of our family, her daughter, her confidant, her devoted caretaker, Rebecca Snyder Easley.
Whit was a working mom. She cheered at little league games, sewed cool clothes, helped with homework, filmed dance recitals, cooked gumbo and taught us how to laugh at our father and each other. She bent the rules, read the conduct report before the grades on our report cards, loaded the car with snacks for road trips and proved to us that love, like pecan cake, never runs out. She was an artist. She retired from the Pasadena School District and finished life, loving the Texas Hill Country and playing in the kitchen with grandkids and great grandkids.
Whit leaves her four children with more than enough laughter and love to share with her ten grandchildren; Stephanie, Sarah, Lance, Matthew, Lauren, Blake, Patrick, Sam, Will and Luke and ten great grandchildren; Gideon, Eden, Caleb, Layla, Clara, Ethan, Travis, Sienna, Kate and Olivia. Granny is gone, but we will all still hold hands for a prayer, chuckle before a punchline, poke fun at one another, and fill our kitchens with family. Our mother will be missed like she was loved. Bigly!
The family will gather for a private celebration of life.
