Kerrville Only 86 short years after being born, the spirit of Warren C. Gowan left this world to begin new adventures. He once quipped, Dont know if I will ever learn to play a harp, but one of these days I just might give it a try. If that dont work out, Im sure the Good Lord will find something I can do.While on this Earth, Warren was a football player, baseball player, sailor, hunter, fisherman, carpenter, master wood craftsman, story teller, song leader and most importantly a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was never at a loss for a bit of good humor jokes were one thing, but well chosen oneliners were his specialty a real Archie Bunker. For those that knew him, it is unlikely he will be forgotten any time soon.Warren was born on March 27, 1922 in Tioga, Texas to Ben Gowan and Ruth Haney Gowan. While growing up sortof, he lived in Eastland, Corpus Christi, and Corsicana. He finally settled in Ingram in 1945 after his discharge from the Navy where he had served in the South Pacific as a Seabee during some very trying times in World War II. He had married Rachel Viola Key in Ingram on October 1, 1944. A carpenter by trade, Warren built many of the houses and commercial buildings in Kerrville, Ingram, Center Point, Comfort, and Hunt. His specialty was cabinets and finish work. He later worked for James Avery Craftsman as a master wood crafter and finally opened his own shop, Warrens Woods, in Ingram. Warren was a member of the Hunt Baptist Church in Hunt, Texas. He loved to sing, and in his younger years he led the singing at the First Baptist Church in Ingram and sang music specials. Warren is survived by his loving wife, Viola, whom he adored for 63 years. Warren had three children and their spouses: Warrenetta and Rey Villegas of Ingram Benny Roy and Simonetta Gowan of Nacogdoches and Ronny Gowan of Ingram. His grandchildren are: Cody Neal, Corey Neal, Chanda Neal Berryman, Roy Key Gowan, and Joshua Gowan.He has 11 great grandchildren.
