Kerrville Fish rejoice, but the rest of us grieve the loss of Walter Warren Clendenen.
Warren, 91, passed away at Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville, TX on February 7, 2012. He had been suffering from lung problems associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD and died peacefully in his sleep.
Warren was born on November 16, 1920 in San Angelo, TX to Walter Lee Clendenen and Ada Leticia Barbee. He grew up mostly on a ranch outside Rankin with three siblings, Bill, Dale, and Jeff.
He married Bernice Lorraine quotJonseyquot White July 29, 1941 in Tankersly, TX.
A graduate from Artesia High School in Artesia, NM, he went on to serve in the Navy during World War II.
Warren lived a full life. He worked in road construction and real estate before partly retiring in 1982. During his long retirement he was able to focus on his love of fishing, traveling, country music, working in his shop, and family. Even after his health had deteriorated in the latter years, he enjoyed driving through the countryside with his buddy Charlie, and he refused to sell his boats even after he could no longer use them. He was also famous for lighting up any gathering with his good stories and wonderful sense of humor. Always a fighter, he bravely faced the world until the very end.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Bernice Clendenen children Walter Clendenen and Gary Clendenen ten grandchildren: Janet Kitten, Lorie McMahon, W. Von Clendenen, Aaron Clendenen, Quentin Clendenen, Leonda Clendenen, Llon Clendenen, Leta Langford, Larry Clendenen, and Jason Clendenen eighteen greatgrandchildren: Luke Kitten, Camille Kitten, Laura Kitten, Zane McMahon, Nathan McMahon, Daniel McMahon, Avry Clendenen, Emma Clendenen, Matthew Clendenen, Marley Clendenen, Trystan Clendenen, Wyatt Clendenen, Landon Clendenen, Lawson Clendenen, Heather Clendenen, Cody Phelps, Lindsay Clendenen, and Kyle Clendenen and one greatgreatgrandchild: Catie Phelps. Warren often showed his pride in his family by saying, quotWere the ones that got this whole mess started.quot
Warren was predeceased by his parents, his son Leon Clendenen, brother, Bill Clendenen, sister, Dale Perkins, and brother, Jeff Clendenen. How sweet it would be to witness their reunion.
