KERRVILLE Walter Whaland Clark III died on October 16, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Kerrville, Texas. He was born on March 29, 1945 in Easton, MD and raised in Chestertown, MD.

Whaland was a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from Allegany College with a degree in Forest Technology and worked for many years as a forest ranger. He was an Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 130 and volunteered with the Boy Scouts for 55 years. He also served the town of Chestertown as councilman for two terms.

After retiring from Washington College as the Grounds Supervisor, he enjoyed several years of traveling the country in his RV and then settled in Ingram, TX where he was an active volunteer at the VA Hospital and the Dietert Center.

In addition to Susan, his wife of 43 years, he is survived by a daughter and soninlaw, Elizabeth and Frank Gannon of Hurlock, MD and a son, Gavin Clark of Chestertown, MD.

Burial will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Emmanuel Church in Chestertown, MD.

In lieu of floral tributes, memorial remembrances may be made to Boy Scout Troop 130.
