Virginia Ennis

San Antonio Virginia Akerman Ennis, 82, of San Antonio, showed her sense of humor by dying April 1.

Born Nov. 3, 1926, to Arnold George Akerman and Mary Zula Graham, in Alamo, TX.

In the midforties, she married Boyd Marcellus Wright in San Antonio and gave birth to Ronald Marc Ronnie and Linda Marlene Linny. To support her children, she labored as a legal secretary, a dressmaker, a salesperson and more.In the late fifties, while working as a debit collector for an insurance company, she met and married Felton Cromer Ennis, with whom she had a son, Randy Kevin.

An excellent seamstress, she made custom safari and postsafari evening wear for clients of Svelte Veldt in San Antonio. Having grown up during the Great Depression, more generosity and creativity than blood coursed through her veins. Like her mother before her, she always found a way to do what needed to be done, inspiring selfreliance in her children.

She is survived by her offspring: Ronald Wright Virginia of Round Rock TX, Lin Ennis Ellen of Sedona AZ, and Randy Ennis Teresa of San Antonio sisters, Elaine Hill of Medford, OR and Mildred Gunter of Houston grandsons Ivan and Isaac Ennis of San Antonio granddaughter Christie Jeff Gilmore of Los Angeles greatgrandchildren Joshua and Sydney Gilmore of Los Angeles and several nieces and nephews.

Virginias mother, Zula Graham Goss, was a wellknown resident of Kerrville and Hill Country, working in local lodges and as a companion and licensed practical nurse. Virginia got her love of the outdoors and camping from her mother and they took Virginias children camping many summer weekends in Kerrville, Garner and Bastrop State Parks.

A graveside memorial service is planned for 2 pm Easter Sunday at the historical HuntJaponica Cemetery on Farm Road 1340 near Kerrville. Virginias ashes will be buried next to her mother headstone Zula Graham. Several generations of family markers can be identified. Names to look for are Martha Matilda Thornton Virginias grandmother, and surnames Taylor, Love Virginias Aunt Zetta, and of course Graham. Alexander Bell once lived near the Grahams and thought so much of them, he took their family name as his middle name. There is a Graham ScotsIrish family reunion in Killeen, Texas, each June.
