Thomas L. Beaty, age 91 passed away Friday, October 2, 2015 at a local nursing home in Kerrville.
Thomas L Beaty was born December 29, 1923 to Elmer T Beaty and Sylvia Elmore Beaty in Murphysboro, ILL. On March 7, 1944 he married the love of his life, Ola Wicker while on leave with The United States Navy.
Thomas L. Beaty enlisted in the US Navy in November 1942. He served in the South Pacific on the light cruiser USS Columbia CL 56 during the Soloman Island Campaign, receiving 3 Battle Stars and one Presidential Unit Citation for the major battle at Boganville. He was then sent to the states for the commissioning of the Destroyer Escort Ship the USS Gentry DE 349. His ship then escorted two convoys of troop ships from New York to Marseille, France and back, serving in the Atlantic. The Gentry was then ordered to the Pacific.
When WWII ended he returned home to his wife and daughter in Jackson, TN. He worked for the Gulf Mobile and Ohio Railroad in Jackson and East Saint Louis, Illinois until 1949, then moved to Kerrville, Texas. He worked for the US Veterans Administration Hospital in engineering from 1951 to 1981 retiring as Chief of Operations for engineering January 9, 1981.
He was preceded in death by his lovely wife Ola Beaty, parents Elmer and Sylvia Beaty, Sister and husband Charlotte and John Morgan, sister and husband Sylvia and James Hubbs, and brother Charles Milton Beaty.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his daughter and her husband, Jan and Robert Leek, Plano Texas; his Niece and her husband and family, Cynthia and Ray Waller from Georgia.
Thomas L Beaty was a Deacon Emeritus at Trinity Baptist Church where he was an inspiration to all. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
The family will greet friends in the main chapel of Kerrville Funeral home on Monday, October 5, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm. Celebration of life services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 in the main chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home with Reverend John Wheat and Ken Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville with full military honors provided by the Kerrville Vietnam Veterans of America.
