Thelma Purl

Kerrville Thelma Mema Louise Neese Purl, 85, who was born on December 23, 1921, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 27, 2007. Born in Marshall, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Fred P. and Eva Neese.After moving to the Rio Grande Valley at an early age, she graduated from Weslaco High School and married her High School Sweetheart, Gordon Purl in 19. They raised their family in Weslaco, TX and moved to Kerrville in 1999. Thelma and Gordon were married for 63 loving years before he preceded her in death in 2002. Thelma was involved in many civic and volunteer activities and worked for many years at the First National Bank of Weslaco. She was a gifted artist who was especially known for her beautiful Texas Bluebonnets and Texas Hill Country landscapes. She was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church, and loved volunteering at The Cottage Shop where she made many dear and wonderful friends.Having been blessed by her love and care are her surviving family which include her children, Sandra McDaniel and husband Gerald of ODonnell, TX, and H. Gordon Purl, Jr. and wife Becky of Kerrville, TX her sister, Betty Derald Hentrich of Tucson, AZ seven grandchildren, Laura Chuck Wright of Midlothian, TX, Melinda Randy Brewer of ODonnell, TX, Steve Mara McDaniel of ODonnell, TX, Stephanie Petch of Arlington, TX, Missy Greg Vaughn of Bangs, TX, Caryn Jeff Talarico of Kerrville, TX, and Amy Riley Rector of Kerrville, TX. She is also survived by seventeen great grandchildren, her brotherinlaw, James Purl of Weslaco, TX three sistersinlaw, Verna Mae Don Hoff of Torrence, CA, Lucille John Martin of Tyler, TX, and Elenora Neese of San Antonio, TX along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of many loving friends and neighbors.ation will be held from 5:30 7:30 PM, Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at Kerrville Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 2 PM, Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at St. Peters Episcopal Church, Kerrville, TX with Rev. Stockton Williams officiating. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, TX.In lieu of floral arrangements, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Peters Episcopal Church, 321 St. Peters Street, Kerrville, TX 78028 or to Vistacare Hospice, 1001 Water Street, Kerrville, TX 78028.Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Kerrville Funeral Home.
