San Antonio Thelda Myrl Harris, 70, of Kerrville, Texas passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 in a San Antonio hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born on June 22, 1934 in Alden, Oklahoma to Earl and Myrtle Brewington.Mrs. Harris was born on the Brewington farm, seven miles south of Carnegie, Oklahoma. She attended schools in Alden, Oklahoma graduating in 1952. She later earned a BS degree from Oklahoma State University and a M.Ed. degree from Northwestern State University in Louisiana. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Kappa Delta Phi, and Phi Delta Kappa honorary scholastic organizations, and professional education sororities, Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Kappa lota. Mrs. Harris spent here life contributing to the education process of others, specifically in the Special Education area. She married Walter B. Harris, Jr. in 1955 at the Alden Community Church.After retirement from education and military life with her husband, they settled in Kerrville where she loved the Hill Country. Living virtually all over the world while her husband spent his career as a U.S. Army officer, she loved traveling, and carrying out the role of an officers wife. No matter where they lived at the time, she was always involved in the Ladies Auxiliary organizations. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Kerrville, Texas, and very active in the womens crafters group. Mrs. Harris was an excellent seamstress and loved needlework, while playing Bridge with her friends was a high point in her routine. Her family was her life, and her grandchildren were the light in her eyes. Mrs. Harris was very well known for putting others before herself. Mrs. Harris is preceded in death by her parents.She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years her daughter, Cassandra Harris Tydings and husband Kevin of Charlotte, North Carolina her son, Walter Brett Harris and wife Karen of Houston, Texas grandchildren, Clay and Garner Tydings of Charlotte, North Carolina, Trent and Cole Harris of Houston, Texas along with a host of many loving friends, neighbors, and her church family.Family visitation will be held from 6 8 PM, Friday, February 25, 2005 and from 8 9 AM, Saturday, February 26, 2005 at Crews Funeral Home, 122 East Floyd Street, Apache, Oklahoma 73006. Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 26, 2005 at Fairview Cemetery, Apache, Oklahoma. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 27, 2005 at the First Christian Church, Kerrville, Texas with the Rev. Jay Dozier officiating.In lieu of floral tributes, the family request memorials to be made to First Christian Church, 1600 East Water Street, Kerrville, Texas 78028.Arrangements, locally and in Oklahoma are under the direction and personal care of Kerrville Funeral Home.
