Sue Holmes

Sue Summers Holmes, 83, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 27, 2005 in Austin. Born December 16, 1921, Sue spent her childhood in Corpus Christi and San Antonio before moving to Kerrville in 19. She attended Schreiner College in Kerrville, where she met her husband Coley, with whom she would spend the next 53 years of her life. A lifetime resident of Kerrville, Sue moved to Austin in 2000 to be closer to her children and sister, who together celebrated five memorable years of joy, love and laughter. Sue is survived by her daughter, Anne Dunn, son, Dr. Cole Holmes, sister, Anne FitzPatrick, and adopted daughter, Beth Riches all of Austin, granddaughter, Kelly Dunn of Houston, nephews, Michael FitzPatrick of Peterborough, England and Sean FitzPatrick of Dallas, and niece, Carole FitzPatick of Phoenix, Arizona. Sues extended family includes many cherished friends in Kerrville and Austin. She was preceded in death by her mother, Laura Jim Heckler, father, Thomas O. Summers, husband, Coley E. Holmes, Jr., and brotherinlaw, Hal FitzPatrick. Sue was gracious, kind, and loyal and invariably placed others needs before her own. In the last years of her life, Sue demonstrated admirable spirit and tremendous strength, meeting each physical challenge with irrepressible resolve. Though frail, she was strongwilled and determined and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family expresses heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the dedicated staffs of The Renaissance of Austin and Buckner Villas for their loving care and concern. Services will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 1, 2005 at the Schreiner Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church in Kerrville. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charitable organization of your choice.
