Stephen Arthur Galland Jr.

Stephen Arthur Galland, Jr., age 80 and a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Center Point, Texas on March 16,2022. He was born on August 9,1941 in Detroit, Michigan to parents, Stephen A. Galland, Sr. and Isabelle Halter.

He volunteered for military service during Vietnam and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, having served 30 years. His military decorations included the Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal and Legion of Merit.

Steve obtained his Masters in Education from the University of Texas El Paso and later tutored at Schreiner University in Kerrville for over 20 years before retiring again.

He was a founding member the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Hill Country, volunteered with Kerr Konnect, Meals on Wheels, Center Point Alliance for Progress and was the Center Point “Santa” for many years. His quick wit, compassion, willingness to help others, humor and hugs will be missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his loving wife, Aletha Ann Tillman Galland of Center Point, Texas; daughters, Dawn Humphrey of Denver, Colorado and Angela Herrman of Corinth, Texas; son, Jeffrey Galland and wife, Jessica of Winter Haven, Florida; stepsons, Jeffrey S. Tillman and wife, Donna of Kirkland, Washington, Richard Tillman of Deltona, Florida and William  “Randy” Tillman of Altamonte Springs, Florida; sisters, Mickie Bourdeau and Jill Faulker of Michigan; along with numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A service honoring his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Steve’s memory to a worthy veteran’s group or The Unitarian Universalist Church of the Hill Country.
