Capt. Ret. U.S. Merchant Marine Stanislaus John Stanowski, born August 4, 1913 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, went home to be with our Lord on October 8, 2006 in Kerrville, Texas.A loving husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather, Stan was a man of prayer who left an example of a life given for God and for others. A patriot who served our country on merchant ships during the Korean War, World War II, and the Vietnam War, he was awarded the Pacific War Zone Bar, the Atlantic War Zone Bar, and the Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Bar. After teaching at the USMS Officers Training School, he sailed to many ports of call on every continent except Australia and New Zealand. He was a lifetime, dedicated member of the Catholic Church and a very avid prolife activist. His many talents included a Godgiven gift to play the piano and compose music without having had any lessons fluency in several foreign languages and accomplished writer who corresponded with many famous editors ability to build a telescope, which he donated to rice University a member of MENSA and INTERTEL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Lois Elizabeth Cooper Stanowski in March, 1999, by his granddaughter, Lisanne Smith Foster in May 2006, and by his parents, five brothers, and four sisters.He is survived by two sons, Ted Stanowski and wife Deb of Clear Lake, Chuck Stanowski and wife Hildegard of League City three daughters, Connie Smith and husband Joe Dwayne of Mountain Home, Mary Wingfield and husband Richard of McKinney, and Cathy Taylor and husband Scott of Burleson nine grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Monsignor Mike Boulette as celebrant. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Notre Dame Catholic Church.
