Shirley Strother

KerrvilleShirley Onedia Strother age 76 who passed from this life, with her family by her side, on Friday, March 4, 2011 at her home in Kerrville TX. Shirley was born on August 3 1934 in San Antonio TX. She lived most of her life in Houston but moved around the country but she called Houston her home. She and her family move to Kerrville in 1976, after a sudden death of her 16 yr old daughter. Mom was first and foremost, our Mother, our Grandmother. She took this job seriously. We were her primary concern and like most mothers, she continued her watch right up to the end. Her most notable qualities were her fierce loyalty to all of her family, her personal poise, elegance, grace, talents and wisdom.

She liked to travel anywhere she could, spontaneously with her kids and all on a new adventure. She would make it fun for all her children when they would travel the country. Shirleys favorite place was the beach. She had the ability to open her heart and home unconditionally too others in need. She has taken people in for as long as the family can remember, whether it would be children or adults. Shirley was a mother to everyone. She was a person that always cared. When a need came to the door she would meet that need. What ever your past was, it did not matter to her, she would always give what her heart could give them. It wasnt for her children to share their mom with others, but she taught them, that people may make the wrong choices, or the do the wrong things, but you keep on loving, and these were the least of her spirituality. Mom is in Heaven now, dancing with God, the Saints, her Parents, and family that has went on before her and one day with the rest of her family. Mom we are so looking forward to our dance. Moms Song has ended, but the Melody lives on.

She is preceded in death by her parents Eva and Lloyd Raper, her 2 daughters, Onedia Raper and Helen Isabelle, grandson, Wesley Roberts and brother, Warren Dugene Raper.

She is surrived by her Children, Earlene Westhoek, husband David of Ingram, John Baker and wife of Grandview, MO, Lillie Tucker, husband Don of Kerrville, Freddie Hamilton, wife Heather of Kerrville, Lloyd Raper Jr. of Kerrville, Virginia Lemon and William Lemon all of Kerrville, Darwin Lemon Wife Glennetta of Grandview, MO., Aunt Helen, sisterinlaw Johney Ruth Raper, 2 nieces and 2 nephews, 25 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
