Texas poet and painter Sarah Patton, 65, of Center Point, died May 17, 2003 in Kerrville after a long illness. She painted under the name Sally Chandler.nbspnbspnbspnbspnbspSarah was born Sally Ann Gottschall to Lester and Dorothy Gottschall in Dallas, Texas, March 22, 1938. She graduated from North Texas State University and did graduate work in fine arts at University of Missouri and in the Creative Writing Poetry Workshop at the University of Wisconsin. Her poems have appeared widely in magazines and journals such as the Wisconsin Review, The Atlanta Review, Open Places, The Little Magazine, and Poetpourri. Her books include The Wizards Broom, Sanctuary, The Joy of Old Horses, My Voice is the Gray Cats Music, The Roses, and many others. She won first place for poetry in the Byliners 1991 Statewide Poetry competition. Sarah is survived by her husband, Hugh of Center Point, two sons, Allen Chandler of Sapphire, NC and Marcus Chandler of Boynton Beach, Florida, a sister, Leslie Habetler of Eugene, Oregon, a brother, Jon Gottschall of Plattsburgh, New York, and three grandchildren, Jacob, Adam, and Katherine Chandler. She is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Gottschall, Kerrville, and her father Lester B. Gottschall.No formal services are planned. Immediate family will gather to celebrate her life, her work and the special love she brought to all of us.
