Ruth Elizabeth Hamilton, 88 lifelong resident of Kerrville passed away peacefully on August 3, 2004 at a local care facility.Mrs. Hamilton was born February 10, 1916 to Arthur L. and Cynthia B. Lewis in Kerrville, TX. Her parents and grandparents owned Lewis Dairy farm in Kerrville until 1929. Her parents later owned Arthur L. Lewis Red and White grocery store and Ruth worked there until the late 1930s. She attended Kerrville schools, graduating from Tivy High School in 1933, and then she attended Schreiner Institute. She married Jarrell G. Hamilton on March 23, 19 in Kerrville, and he preceded her in death in 1981. Mrs. Hamilton owned Ruths Gifts and Alterations Shop in Kerrville for 20 years and sold her business in 1975. She was a member of State and National Bowling Associations, and her gift shop even had their own bowling team. After retiring with her long time companion Allen Abshier she enjoyed her beautiful home, gardening, and traveling. In the company of Allen and her brother, Charles, she traveled to all of the states including Alaska and Hawaii, Canada, and went on a Mediterranean cruise. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brotherinlaw, Sidney S. Franke, and loving companion, Allen Abshier.She is survived by her brother, Charles Lewis of San Antonio sister, Jane Lewis Franke of Uvalde, and nephews, David and Michael Lewis and Lewis, Walter, and Brian Franke nieces, Karen Lewis and Cynthia Price and numerous grandnieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00PM Thursday, August 5, 2004 at the Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Warren Hornung officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Rest Cemetery. ation will be 68:00PM, Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at the Kerrville Funeral Home.Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Kerrville.
