Kerrville Ruth Fagan, 96, of Kerrville, Texas passed away peacefully on January 24, 2004 at a local care center in Kerrville, Texas. Born May 26, 1907 in New Amsterdam, Holland, she was reared in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Cleveland, Ohio. She lived in Dallas, Texas for over 40 years before moving to Kerrville, Texas in 1982.In 1943, she was primarily instrumental in establishing the Pilot Institute for the Deaf in Dallas, and continued with it until 1949. The school merged with Callier Hearing Center in 1964.The widow of George A. Fagan, deceased in 1980, she became a real estate broker in 1950. She and her husband owned and operated an insurance agency in Dallas until 1973. She joined the Dallas Real Estate Board now the Greater Dallas Association of Realtors and remained a member until her death. From 1965 until 1980, Ms. Fagan operated the Massey Reality College in Dallas. She was a charter member of the Womens council of the Dallas Board of Realtors and was President in 1962. She was also a member of the Pilot Club International of Dallas, and later Zonta Club of Dallas II.Ms. Fagan was also a charter member of the Volunteer organization of the Cowboy Artists of America Museum. She also was a member of the Hill Country Youth Ranch and of the Library in Kerrville, Texas.She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, a sister, Katy Walton, formerly of Lindale, Texas, and a brother, Henry Oldenkamp, formerly of Aptos, California.Survivors include a brother, James Oldenkamp and wife, Bonnie of Richardson, Texas sisterinlaw, Grace Oldenkamp, of Aptos, California numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in the United States and Holland longtime friends, Sam and the late Maria Houston of Ingram, along with a host of many loving friends and neighbors.Private inurnment and a private family gathering will occur in the North St. Mark Columbarium, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Hill Country Youth Ranch, Schreiner University Student Fund, Museum of the Western Arts formerly the Cowboy Artist Museum, or the ButtHoldsworth Library, all in Kerrville, Texas.Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Kerrville Funeral Home.
