Roger Alfred Gotcher went to be with our heavenly father on Friday March 17, 2017 in Kerrville, TX at the age of 81.
He was born on November 19, 1935 in Denton, TX to the parents of Charles and Twila Gotcher. He graduated from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, TX with a Master's Degree in Education and held the positions of Principal/Superintendent for more than 40 years. After retiring from the School System he was instrumental and received recognition for developing a strong Work Study and Internship Program at Schreiner University in Kerrville TX.
Roger was a great family man and loving father who was involved in the Masonic Lodge where he served as a Master Mason for more than 50 years. His family and friends will always remember him hunting in the Hill Country, spending the summers fishing in Port Aransas, Raising and Racing Quarter Horses, and playing the fiddle where he won numerous fiddling championships. Also a member of the Hill Country band ''The Poverty Playboys''. He picked up his first fiddle at the age of 18 and was once asked to join the famous George Jones band.
He is survived by his 3 daughters Cindy Forest of Hunt, Tx , Cheryl Merritt of Hunt, Tx and husband Robert, Glenda White of San Antonio and husband Steve. Grandchildren include Ashly Forest, Haley Lehrmann and husband BB, Robert Adam Merritt and wife Melinda, Chase White and wife Chrissy, Leslie Yezak and husband Kie, Kamryn White. Great Grandchildren include Tyler Hargis, The Late Beloved Trenton Friederich , Weston and Cooper Merritt, and Maci Lehrmann. His Adored Sister Arlene Shelton who affectionately called him ''Bubba'' and Husband Don. His niece Missy Shelton Van Hoozer, and husband Leslie, and daughter Kyla, and Great nieces Emma and Hadley and numerous Cousins in North Texas. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Charles and Twila Gotcher.
A Masonic graveside service is scheduled for Friday March 24, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville, Texas . All are welcome to attend and celebrate Roger's life. Flowers may be sent to Kerrville Funeral Home.
