Robert Goldsborough
Robert (Bob) Rheem Goldsborough, Jr.age 93 of Kerrville passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016. He was born on July 2, 1923 in Russellville, Arkansas, the only child of Robert Rheem Goldsborough Sr. and Ethyl Helene Webb.
They moved to Conway, Arkansas in September 1929 , Bob spent the 11th grade at the Gulf Coast Military Academy in Gulfport, Mississippi which he had won a scholarship for. He graduated from Conway High School in May 1941. He attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway for 3 semesters, and then enlisted in the Army Air Corp on December 2, 1942. He received an appointment to the US Naval Academy in 1943 and left the Army on July 19, 1943 to attend the Naval Academy. He graduated from the Academy on June 6, 1946 and married that day to a Tennessee girl Anita Booth. They spent most of the next 3 years in California while Bob was at sea on the USS Helena (CA-75) frequently, Bob then served in the Naval Reserve while working at PT Mugu as an Electrical Engineer. Bob was recalled to active duty on May 3, 1951 to serve during the Korean conflict. They moved to Chincoteague, VA where Bob was stationed at the Naval Air Station. He was released on May 14, 1953 and returned to California where he went to work on Guided Missile Activity. During this time he spent two semesters at Stanford University studying Electrical Engineering. They made several moves in the next years to Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Bob divorced and remarried in November 1980, Midge Glor. After some time in VA, they relocated in Kerrville, TX in 1981. There was a two year time in Yuma, AZ a four year stay in Temple, TX, and a four year location in Arlington, TX, all the while maintaining their home in Kerrville. Bob was a past member of the "Sons of American Revolution"; current member of "Sons of The Republic of Texas" and "Sons of Confederate Veterans". He loved volunteering and was involved in the "Cowboy History Museum", "The Official Tx State Arts & Craft Fair", the "Visitors Bureau", "Kerr Arts & Culture Center" and "St. Peters' Cottage Shop".
Bob was predeceased by his parents and one son Robert III. He is survived by his wife Midge Glor, sons: Mark & Nikki Goldsborough, of Rockville, MD; David Goldsborough of Pasadena, CA; Paul & Cate Goldsborough of Damascus, MD; and daughters: Dancy & George Girot of Boulder Creek, CA; Rebecca & Art Mathsen of Frederick, MD; Amy & Michael Schnetzler of Fairfax, VA; Maggie & Frank Buzzard of Cheyenne, WY; and 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all memorial donations be made to the charity of one's choice.
A Visitation and time of reflection will take place Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 4 to 6 PM at Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Hwy. Kerrville, TX 78028.
A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Monday September 19th 2016 at St Peter's Episcopal Church 320 St. Peter Street Kerrville, TX 78028 with Father Tom Murray officiating.
