Robert Atticus Alford, Jr. 93, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at his residence in Kerrville, Texas.

Mr. Alford was born on April 27, 1922 in Caldwell, Texas to Robert Atticus Alford Sr. and Ella Mae Stubbs Alford. He was the 2nd of 6 siblings and they grew up on a farm in nearby Mumford, TX. He graduated from Hearne High School and then Texas A&M University in January 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Administration. He went directly into Officer Candidate School for the US Army, and was commissioned a 2LT. In July 1943 he married Marian Markham at Ft. Sill OK and a few months later was deployed to the Pacific theater. He was a unit commander with the 64th Field Artillery Battalion. They were involved with the Liberation of the Philippines and the occupation of Japan. After his service in WWII, he returned to Texas and he and Marian started their family. They eventually settled in Kerrville, TX in 1954, where they raised their children. Bob was a salesman for a wholesale hardware company in San Antonio. He traveled the Hill Country for more than 15 years with that position, and then was a manufacturer's representative for the remainder of his career, which he completed in Houston.

After retirement Bob and Marian had homes in Kerrville and Colorado Springs, until Marian had a stroke in 1999. He lovingly cared for her until she passed away in 2006.
Bob was a very loving family man and a faithful member of Notre Dame Catholic Church for many years. He and Marian were active members of organizations within the church. They were also very fond German Club members for many years.

He was predeceased by his parents, 2 brothers, his wife Marian, and his beloved partner for 6 years, Dorris Sanders.

He is survived by his 3 siblings: Jane Spiller of Flint MI, Virginia Claybrook of Grand Rapids MI, and Dan Alford (Rae Ann) of Caldwell, TX; 4 children: Nancy Alford of Kerrville, Larry Alford of Sand Point, ID, Mark Alford (Kathy) of Naperville, IL, and Marilyn Alford Steinberger (Larry) of Sugar Land. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Brad Greer (Laura) of Houston, Laurie Greer (Alex Wu) of Austin, Mark Greer of Cabo San Lucas, BCS, Mexico, Aaron Pizzitola (Tori) of College Station, Caryn Pizzitola of Austin, Ginny Alford Kinney of Vina, CA, Parker Alford and Ally Alford of Naperville, IL, Matt Steinberger (Shiloh) of Buda, TX, Jody Steinberger McCrary (Matt) of Austin, Stacy Steinberger of Houston and 7 great-grandchildren.

The Holy Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015 in the main chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. following the Rosary. Celebration of life services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2015 at Notre Dame Catholic Church. The interment will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015 in the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX with full military honors.
