November 21, 1921 May 3, 2008Kerrville Richmond Richie Bufords peaceful soul left family and friends to be with his Heavenly Father Saturday, May 3, 2008. He was 86.All who knew him will miss his signature chuckle, laugh and smile and, certainly, his ready hugs. He will be remembered as a man whose word and handshake made an honored promise. He taught his children by example that, while life was complex, to live our lives well was simple.He is lovingly survived by Virginia, his soulmate, friend and wife of almost 66 years. They were married in Los Angeles on June 27, 1942. Richie served as a corporal in the US Army at Ft Polk, LA and Camp Maxey, Paris, TX. After a few years in Los Angeles and Dallas, they moved to Hobbs, NM in 1952 to raise their three daughters. Richie and Virginia owned and operated two Texaco service stations for 28 years. For another 10 years, Richie worked for Rice Engineering. After retirement, they moved to Kerrville in 1990 and traveled in motor homes for many years. They loved their time with their dear friends and neighbors at Wilderness Park.Richie was Daddy to his three daughters and their husbands, JoAnn and George McKinzey of Kerrville, Barbara and Mike Grayson of Atlanta, GA, and Janet and Robert McSpadden of Houston. He was Granddad to Brian Grayson, David Sapper, Darrell McSpadden who passed before him in 2000, Erica Simpson, JoLynn Wilkinson and Lee Ann Ridgley. His great grandchildren are Nathan and Amanda Grayson, Sergei and Devyn Sapper, Joel and Alex Simpson, Katlynn and Patrick Wilkinson and two more due in the fall.Richie will be buried in a family plot close to his grandson following a family ceremony.In lieu of floral arrangements, the family request that memorials be sent to a hospice program. Richies family will gratefully remember the care and carring Richie received from Peterson Hospice, 1121 Broadway, Kerrville, TX 78028.
