R. C. Connie OMassey left on his trip home on July 19, 2006 after his two year battle with cancer of the lungs.R. C. was born on March 29, 1928 in Denver, CO to Richard Henry OMassey and Mary Constance OKeefe. When he was three years old, the Army transferred the family to San Francisco, CA where he, his brother John and sister Maureen grew up and attended school.Three days prior to reporting for duty with the Navy, R. C. was in a motorcycle accident. With the failure of being given a tetanus shot, he ended up with tetanus which settled in his knee. The Navy started a search for the AWOL Richard who they found in the hospital in a full body cast, which he remained in for nearly eight months. Needless to say, he was excused from the Navy at that time. While in the hospital, he met his future wife, Esther Quinn, who was a student nurse at that hospital.R. C. earned his Aeronautical Engineering Degree from CalAero Technology Institute and a degree in Science from California State University Los Angeles.He was employed by Lockheed Aircraft Corp. as a structural Engineer on the design of theYC and the C130 Cargo Aircraft then he was employed by McDonnell Douglas Aircraft for thirty years as BranchChief of Technology in the Mechanical Engineering Directorate. From1963 to 1966 he was loaned to the Missile and Space Division to work on the Saturn. The majority of his career with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft, he was in the Commercial Transportation Aircraft Division, working on design and analytical efforts in all aircraft made by McDonnell Douglas. After retirement, R. C. was employed as a consultant to McDonnell Douglas for Expert Systems and as a Consultant to McDonnell Douglas Legal Firm for accident investigation.He and his wife, Nancy moved from Reno, NV to Kerrville, TX in 1998.He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Esther, both parents and his brother and granddaughter, Theresa.R. C. is survived by his present wife, Nancy OMassey, sons, Malcolm OMassey Peg, Mike OMassey Binh and Timothy OMassey and daughter Colleen Mary, granddaughter Kathy Faircloth Ben and grandson Viet Tran OMassey, great granddaughter Addy Faircloth,sister, Maureen Zarcufsky, step daughters, Jan Bettes Schneider Joe, Connie Patrick Bill, Karen Stillion Rick and Nancys grandchildren Wendy Jauregui Juan, Wesley Loftin, Brittany Goss Stillion, Shelby and Jarrod Stillion, Jolene Gerald Schneider, Bobby Witchmann, Shonda, Shane , Megan and Melody Patrick.Vistation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at Kerrville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 23, 2006 at Kerrville Funeral Home. Graveside services will be in Reno, NV at Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel.
