Kerrville Richard F. Meckay passed to his Heavenly reward at a local health care facility Monday Jan 31, 2011 at the age of 76. He was born in Chicopee, MA, on February 6, 1934 to Stanley and Matilda Meckay.
In 1955, he graduated from the American International College in Springfield, MA with a degree in Business Administration. He then went on to receive his Masters Degree in International Trade from New York University.
He is survived by his wife Annie, his daughter Carol Ann Cech of Houston, granddaughter Brittney Cech of Houston, Aunt Irene Stadnicki of Chicopee, MA, brother and sisterinlaw Frank Meckay and wife Regina of Chicopee MA, brotherinlaw Frank Williams and wife Wilma of Houston and many cousins and friends in Massachusetts and Texas. Richard is also survived by two close friends, Martin Stuckey and Era Schroat.
Richard Joined the U.S.Navy and was stationed in Charleston, SC where he attended Naval Engineering School and was commissioned as Engingeering Officer on the minesweeper, USS Nimble MSO 459. He spent most of his years of duty in the Mediterranean. After his discharge from the Navy, Richard joined the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. and obtained his CLU in 1969. He became the Regional Manager of the Group Life and Health office in Houston, TX. He then went into business as an independent Insurance agent.
He was member of the River Oaks Rotary Club in Houston, where he served as President and was Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a member of the Kerrville Rotary Club.
Richard and his wife Annie, were married for 15 years. After retirement, they moved to Kerrville in August of 2000, where they built their dream home and enjoyed gardening and traveling. They had traveled to Europe, New Zealand, Russia, Canada and Scandinavia, as well as most states in the US in their motorhome. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kerrville.
ation will be at Kerrville Funeral Home 1221 Junction Hwy Kerrville Sunday, February 6, 2011 from 5:00 pm 7:00 pm. Services will be held Monday February 7, at the Kerrville Funeral Home at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio at 2:00 pm.
