Kerrville Mrs. Rena M. quotCricketquot Whittenberg, 94, of Center Point, TX passed from this life at a local Kerrville hospital on Tuesday, December 20, 2011.
Born on September 1, 1917 in Lake Arthur, LA, she was the daughter of Howard A. Hudson and Armynthe Thibodeaux Hudson.
She grew up in Lake Arthur and graduated from Lake Arthur High School in 1934. She then went to Methodist School of Nursing in Houston, TX and graduated in 1937. For the next two years, she was a registered nurse.
On August 5, 1937, she married Douglas W. Whittenberg, who was a geologist and together, they lived in 47 towns in 5 states.
They retired to what is now called Loves Apple Ranch in Medina for 10 years while her husband taught math and science in high schools.
They bought property in McCulloch County on the Colorado River and built their home there. In 1985, they moved to Center Point, TX.
She joined the Methodist Church at the age of 11 and was a member of the Center Point United Methodist Church.
She is predeceased by her husband, a son, Doug H. Whittenberg, her parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and 2 nephews.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her 6 nieces and 25 great and great great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at Center Point United Methodist Church on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 10AM. Committal services will follow at Center Point Cemetery.
The family suggests that donations in her name be made to the Center Point United Methodist Church, or to Meals On Wheels or to the charity of ones choice.
