Reba Vaiden Bethea Dodd passed away quietly at home surrounded by her family following a sudden illness on August 18, 2013 in Kerrville, TX. She was born in Tulsa OK on September 17, 1923 to Mary Vaiden Bethea and Henry Croom Bethea.

She and her family moved to Houston where she attended Lanier Junior High School and Lamar High School. She graduated from Rice Institute in 1944. She made many life long friends during these days. She married Dr. George Emmet Dodd Jr on April 2, 1948 and resided in Houston for many years where she raised the family and volunteered for many causes. She and George moved to Kerrville, TX in 1980 where he continued to practice medicine and she continued to use her time to help others. She was especially proud of her work at the Salvation Army Free Clinic.

Reba loved gardening and passed this love on to all of her four children. She was an active member of garden clubs in both Houston and the Sierra Madre Garden Club here in Kerrville. She was an excellent cook and a wonderful hostess. Reba loved to play bridge and was a first class player. She belonged to multiple bridge groups while living in Houston and in Kerrville. In Houston she was a member of St. Phillips Presbyterian Church and in Kerrville she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was very active in Women of the Church.

Predeceased by her husband in 1998 after 50 years of marriage she is survived by their children Laura Bethea Dodd Cox, George Emmet Dodd III, Chadwick Graham Dodd, Elizabeth Murray Dodd Lewis and husband Richard Lewis And by her grandchildren Robert Evan Cox, Maura Newton Dodd, Elissa Blanton Dodd, George Harlan Dodd, Henry Fort Dodd, Katherine Selden Lewis, James Winchester Lewis and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of the usual remembrances contributions in memory of Reba may be sent to St. Josephs Indian School, Chamberlain, SD 57326, First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville, or the charity of your choice.

A celebration of Rebas life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville on Saturday, September 21, 2013, 2:00 PM, Rob Lohmeyer officiating. Interment to follow at a later date in Faunsdale, AL.
