San Antonio Ray Kendall Barnes Big Ray, 70, passed from this life on August 23, 2011 Methodist Heart Hospital as a result of complications during his third heart bypass surgery. He was born in Beaumont, TX on July 31, 1941.

Ray was career Army, offering 20 years of service before retiring at Ft. Bliss, El Paso, TX. He had served his country honorably in Vietnam on two tours of duty. After his military career, he was employed by the Veterans Administration for 15 years before retiring a second time.

He married Karen Williams Barnes, on September 19, 1995 in Las Vegas, NV. He was an avid gamesman, loving to hunt and fish. Ray also enjoyed competitive skeet and trap shooting.

One of Rays greatest joys was being on his quottrikequot and being out riding with his friends and family, going to a bike rally, or riding with his club members. Ray also liked to spend time in the kitchen cooking for his wife, family, friends, or anyone who might be visiting and planning on staying long enough for him to fire up his grill or smoker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his first wife, Maria K. Barnes.

Those left to honor and cherish his memories are his wife, Karen Barnes of Ingram, TX sons, Michael R. Barnes of Columbia, MD, Ordie Derrell Manner of Giddings, TX, and Melroy Willie Manner of Colfax, WA grandchildren, Janay Barnes, and Jordyn Manner, along with a host of many loving friends and neighbors.

A ation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 29, 2011 from 6 8 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in the Main Chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Hunnicutt officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories, Kerrville, TX with Military Honors offered by the Vietnam Officers Association.

In lieu of floral tributes, the family asks that memorial contributions be forwarded to Veterans Administration Hospital, Attn: VAVS, 3600 Memorial Blvd, Kerrville, TX 78028.
