SAN ANTONIO Ralph James Poth, 86, passed from this life on November 15, 2012, in San Antonio, TX hospital.

Ralph was born at home on the family farm near Yoakum, TX on August 5, 1926, the son of Edwin Richard and Mary Kate McGehee Poth. After graduating from Yoakum High School, he attended The University of Texas and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering.

After a whirlwind romance, Ralph married Maurine Warren in Houston, TX on December 10, 1954. They moved to Lagunillas, Venezuela several months later. Ralph spent most of his professional life as a Petroleum Engineer for several Exxon affiliates in Venezuela, Libya and London. Ralph, Maurine and their four children enjoyed living overseas and the unique experiences in each country. After Ralph retired from Exxon in 1981, he and Maurine settled in New Braunfels and later moved to Kerrville.

Ralph was a lover of music which became a lifelong passion from his first introduction to the musical, The Mikado, when he was in college, to his service as a founding member of Kerrvilles Symphony of the Hills Association. Ralph was a past board member of the ButtHoldsworth Memorial Library in Kerrville. He loved working at his property near Center Point and philosophizing over the Universe and meaning of life.

Ralph is preceded in death by his son, Darrell James Poth.

Survivors include his wife, Maurine Warren Poth three children, Edie Alynn Poth Tannenbaum and husband Marc Tannenbaum of Houston, Ryan Scott Poth and wife Amanda Fox of Brisbane, Australia, and Ellen Jean Poth of Houston. He is also survived by his sister, Kathryn Poth Barre and husband Chester Barre of Fulton, Texas. Ralph has five grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews along with many friends and neighbors who will miss him dearly.

A Memorial Service in celebration of Ralphs life will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, November 24, 2012 in the Main Chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home with the Rev. Rob Lohmeyer of First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville officiating.

In lieu of floral tributes, memorial gifts may be made to the Symphony of the Hills Association P.O. Box 2329, Kerrville, Texas 78029, or to the charity of ones choice.
