JUNCTION Rachel Jane Hicks, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, after a short illness.
Born Sept. 18, 1944, in Princeton, Ind. She grew up and lived most of her life in Texas. She and her husband, Bobby, met in Crane, Texas, and were married Sept. 16, 1966.
Soon after marriage, she completed her bachelor degree in education from the University of Texas Permian Basin. She continued her fond relationship with academia by devoting her life to a threedecade career as an educator. As an English and speech teacher, she taught hundreds of students how to conjugate verbs, coordinate conjunctions and avoid dangling participles. Her love of the language was only surpassed by her affection towards her class and her students always gave love and respect in return. She also had a passion for drama and throughout her life participated in theatrical productions as a or.
She took great pleasure in her family especially time spent with her children and granddaughters. Jane was dynamic and had a sharp wit that was spiced with delightfully engaging sarcasm.
She enjoyed lighthearted debate and word play. Conversations with Jane could leave the listener perplexed, amused and enlightened all at the same time.
Surviving are her spouse, Bobby L. Hicks son Timothy W. Hicks and wife Tina, and granddaughters Taylor and Tori of Dallas daughter Melanie Skaggs and husband Tony of Seattle.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Graham Funeral Home, 1010 College St., Junction, Texas, with the Rev. Ken Bolton officiating. Interment will follow in London Cemetery in London, Texas.
