Kerrville Mrs. Phyllis Marie Damerow, 88, of Kerrville, passed into the loving arms of Jesus at a local health care facility on Sunday, July 31, 2011. Faith and prayer always came first with her.
Born in Chicago, IL on March 16, 1923, at her familys homestead at 1130 N. Laramie Ave, she was the only child of Phillip E. and Frieda Marie Mohr Gerlach. She and her family had lived there for many years, and survived the Great Depression there. Mrs. Damerow served as the Air Raid Warden for her block on N. Laramie Ave.
She had been a resident of Kerrville for many years, coming here from Dallas, TX.
Mrs. Damerow had worked as a legal secretary and then went to work as a medical secretary for Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL until her retirement. It was then that she married Emmet O. Damerow and they moved to Dallas. When Emmet passed, she moved to Kerrville to be closer to her daughter.
A faithful woman, she was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Damerow had quotWanderlustquot with was the desire to travel, and she visited every state in the union, and also visited Europe, Israel, Asia, Africa, Australia, Canada and Mexico.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Emmet O. Damerow and by her grandson, Cary Justin Shearer.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her daughter, Kathi Taylor Shearer of Ingram her son, Joseph William Taylor and his wife, Cindy, of Londonderry, NH and 4 grandchildren, Kristopher Shearer of Ingram, TX, Amanda Shearer of Denton, TX and Jospeh Jacob Taylor and Danielle Taylor both of Londonderry, NH.
According to her wishes, there will be no local services.
The family suggests that donations in her name be made to the American Bible Society.
