Fort Worth, TX Mrs. Pauline Maurer, a longtime resident of Kerrville, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 15 in a nursing home in Burleson, Texas, at the age of 90 years and 8 monthsPauline was born in Luckenbach, Texas on January 15, 1917, to Hill Country pioneer parents Otto and Sophie Segner Kunz. She married Clemens W. Maurer on June 27, 1938, and they lived all of their lives together in Kerrville and in Harper. Mrs. Maurer was an active participant in church and civic affairs in Kerrville. As a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, she was instrumental in founding the womens Altar Society, which is still active today. She was also previously involved in starting the Altar Society at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Harper, Texas. Her church involvement extended to the Diocesan level, where she served as an officer in various organizations through the years. She helped plan and open the first student cafeteria at Notre Dame School in the late 1950s, and worked as one of the cooks for most of the cafeterias existence. In recognition of her devotion to her family and her involvement in parish affairs, she was named the Archdiocesan Mother of the Year in the late 1950s. She and Mr. Maurer were part of a team involved in introducing the Cursillo Movement to Notre Dame Parish in 1968. While serving as Eucharistic Minister, she was dedicated to visiting the ill and homebound. She was on staff of the first Kerrville community day care center for children of lowincome families, and in election years was a frequent volunteer at local precincts and at voting centers. She was known for her exquisite handmade quilts, and enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and fishing.Pauline was preceded in death by Clemens Maurer, her beloved husband of 63 years. Three brothers, Ted, Edmund and Richard Kunz, and two sisters, Gertrude Jung and Elizabeth Kunz, as well as one grandchild and three greatgrandchildren also preceded her. She is survived by four sons and three daughters, and their spouses. Her sons are Charley Maurer and wife Shirley of Arlington, Texas, Norman Maurer and wife Judy of Kerrville, Texas, David Maurer and wife Peggy of Arpelar, Oklahoma, and Stephen Maurer and wife Donna of Benson, Arizona. Her daughters are Delphine Exman of Fort Worth, Texas, Clarice Morse of Fort Worth, Texas, and Angela Thompson and husband Larry Vavra of Georgetown, Texas. She is also survived by two sisters, Rosalie Klaerner and Louise Heimann, both of Fredericksburg, Texas, and four sistersinlaw, Norma Kunz of Fredericksburg, Texas, Helen Fritz and Gertrude Maurer of Harper, Texas, and Leona Maurer of Nazareth, Texas. She leaves 27 grandchildren, 46 greatgrandchildren and 1 greatgreat grandchild. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30AM on Friday, September 21, 2007 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Kerrville, with burial to follow in the Catholic Cemetery in Harper, Texas. Rosary and scripture service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday evening, September 20, 2007 followed by visitation from 6:308:00 PM at Kerrville Funeral Home.Memorials may be made to Notre Dame School Endowment Fund or to the charity of ones choice.
