Oscar Baker

SAN ANTONIO Oscar Butler Baker, 76, passed from this life on Sunday, April 29, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born on May 11, 1935 in Medina, Texas to the late Ira and Alta Russell Baker.

Oscar grew up in a farming and ranching family that had plenty of work as well as a large extended family and friends that gathered on his parents farm for every special occasion that they could.

Hunting was a lifetime joy from managing a hunting lease with his father to making the annual trip to Colorado with the Bakers and friends. This tradition began when Oscar was too young to go but a tradition that he and his brother, as well as cousins, continue to this day. Some of his happiest times were spent in Colorado, hunting as well as retelling the stories of the big elk and deer that they were able to bring home to help feed the families.

One of his greatest joys has been watching his grandchildren grow and accomplish different milestones.

Oscar married Barbara Mackey in Odessa, TX on January 7, 1967. They made their first home in Bandera where Oscar was farming and raising sheep. They soon became the quotdropoffquot place for orphan lambs, chickens, and even a pig that became a household pet.

To this marriage, two children were born, Stacie and Matt. In addition, they helped raise 51 foster children.

Preceded in death by his parents a brother, William Ira Baker sister, Irene Calhoun and granddaughter, Kassidy Lynn Baker.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara daughter, Stacie Roger Segars and their children, Bryce and Michael son, Matt and children, Kensi and Grace brother Rusty Baker of Odessa sister, Opal Word of Pipe Creek and sister, JoAnn Meador of Junction SisterAunt, Eleanor Baker of Center Point he is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of many loving friends and neighbors.
