Oran Harrison

On the morning of November 24, 2023, God released Oran Harrison from the bondage of Alzheimer’s Disease into heaven with Him.  It is said that waiting for him would be his relatives, friends and the rest that have gone on before him. Let us have faith and believe that is so.

He was born in Athens, TX to Bessie McChristy and Oran Bass but soon changed his name to Oran Harrison.  The family moved to the Fort Worth area.  There he began his lifelong aim of helping.  Not only helping his Dad but anyone who needed an ear or hand.  This quality extended into the Army, his family, his life and his retirement years.  Oran was always ready to help.  Later in life, his assistance was punctuated by his health issues but that didn’t keep him from offering help, whether it be financial or listening.

His young life brought a wife and three children, Scott Harrison and his wife Leigh Ann; Steve Harrison and partner Monica Kelly; and Shannon Monroe and her husband James.  Added to this group were grandchildren, Becca and Zak Harrison and Ella and “Bear” Monroe.

He spent his professional life as an architectural hardware draftsman/salesman AHI where again he was helping people build schools, hospitals, prisons, churches, restaurants, you name it and he helped with the layout.  He loved his job and his profession.

Later on, in his life he met a beautiful red-head named Gerrian who became Mrs. Harrison.  They spent a lifetime of happiness together traveling the world and at home with family.  After their move to the Kerrville area, in and around the early part of the century, they built their forever home that he loved.  He would watch the 18 wheelers on Interstate 10 from the veranda.

Oran never knew “can’t do”.  He helped his father-in-law with daily activities when he became incapacitated due to health issues. (FIL lived in Kerrville and Oran lived in Houston).  He helped his children become self-sufficient individuals by participation in their activities and listening when they had issues.  Again, in the Army he was a Lt. Col’s assistant and again his own home he aided in its development.

He leaves in mortal life his beloved wife, Gerrian, children, grandchildren and Gerrian’s grandchild, William.

My love, Oran, for I am with you and love you all the days of my life

Funeral arrangements will be by Kerrville Funeral Home and at his wish he will be cremated with his ashes spread with his sidekick BJ over his dearly beloved property.
