Kerrville, TX Nita Leota Thompson Routh, 95, passed from this life at a local health care facility on January 10, 2011.
Born in Nevada, Missouri on March 30, 1915, she was the daughter of Harvy and Maggie O. Norris Thompson.
Leota graduated from Nevada High School and following her graduation, she worked as a secretary for several different companies in St. Louis, Missouri, then for a young Prosecuting Attorney, Dewey Routh.
During World War II, she worked for Navy Intelligence in Puerto Rico. In 1943, she and Dewey were married in the Navy Chapel there. She and Dewey were stationed in Washington DC for the remainder of the war.
While in Washington, Leota received her Associates in Arts Degree from George Washington University. In 1947, they moved to Rolla, MO, where they made their home for the next 54 years. In 2001, she moved to Kerrville, to be closer to her daughter.
Leota was a very creative person and an artist. She spent her days gardening, painting, sewing, listening to music, making cards and reading mystery novels. She loved flowers, birds, other wildlife as well as her many cats throughout the years.
She is predeceased by her beloved Dewey in 1981, her parents, and her
brothers and sisters, Vera R. Smith, Marshall W. Thompson, Loren O. Thompson, Susie O. Lenertz and Marjorie M. Olsen.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her daughter, Catherine Routh Barkley, and her husband, James, of Kerrville her sister, Virginia Thompson Price of Nevada, MO and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home, Kerrville, TX on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 11:00AM. A committal service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC at a later date.
