Boerne Myrtle Janette Helmer, 98, passed from this life on Thursday, July 7, at a local care center. Mrs. Helmer was born on July 25, 1906 in Wellman, Iowa to the late William and Allie Curl.Mrs. Helmer attended Business College in Iowa City, Iowa, meeting her future husband during this time. She and the late Albert J. Helmer were married August 23, 1926 after which they spent almost 53 wonderful love filled years together. Mr. and Mrs. Helmer had the opportunity to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in 1976.The Helmers spent their lives owning many different retail businesses. They were well known for the ownership of The Hub Caf in Pharr, Texas, where truck drivers from all over became very fond of them. Those truckers would not allow anyone to harm the Helmers, whose honesty and generosity made them their Guardian Angels. They later purchased the Don Wes Motel in Donna, Texas, where their generosity again gained them lifelong friendships one included a special family who adopted them as their own.Mrs. Helmer was never judgmental and was proud of the diversity of her family. She carried on the family trait of humor, cheerfulness and above all tolerance, and her personal writings and letters are treasured by her family and friends alike for their literacy and imagination. In her later years she lived at the Take it Easy trailer park in Kerrville, Texas, where she cared for her own lawn past the age of 90.Mrs. Helmer was preceded in death by her parents who passed away in 1958 and 1946 respectively, her husband who passed in 1979, along with three brothers and one sister.Survivors include her son, William J. Bill Helmer daughterinlaw, Pat Helmer Penrod grandson, William M. Marc Helmer granddaughter, Jan Lee Rekemeyer greatgrandchildren, Jessie Janette Rekemeyer, Kara Mae Rekemeyer, Blake Dallas Rekemeyer her extended family, Yolanda Rios and husband Lupe, Rey Vasquez and wife Chacha, Beto Vasquez deceased, Albert J. Vasquez, Mary Martinez and husband Sam, Margaret Browitt and husband Ed, Lilia Kaufhold and husband Sonny, and David Vasquez and wife Terry, along with a host of many loving friends and neighbors.A visitation will be held from 5 7 PM, and the recitation of the Holy Rosary by Deacon Charles Domingues will be held at 6 PM, Sunday, July 10, 2005 at the Chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM, Monday, July 11, 2005 at the Notre Dame Catholic Church, corner of Water and Washington Streets, Kerrville, Texas 78028 with Father Mike Peineman serving as officiant. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
