Kerrville Miriam Eleanor Kay, beloved wife of George Allen Kay, died peacefully, April 15, 2005 at her home in Kerrville. She was 89. A Pennsylvania native, Mrs. Kay was a retired New York State school administrator and teacher. She taught a wide range of grade levels including kindergarten and senior high and was Director of Reading Programs in several districts. She also served briefly as Pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren Churches in Degolia and Beaver Dam, Pennsylvania beginning in 1945.Following her retirement, she traveled extensively with her husband George and taught literacy and English as a second language in Africa, Asia, and the United States.Mrs. Kay received a Bachelors Degree from Houghton College in Houghton, New York in 1949, and a M.Ed in 1952 from Geneseo College also in New York State.She designed her home on Pleasant View Drive down to the last detail, reflecting a lifelong dream. She spent many hours sitting on the decks surrounding her house, enjoying the beautiful sights and sounds of nature, and especially the spectacular sunsets. She was well known for her dramatic skills and loved reading stories and reciting poetry to the delight of her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Kay was predeceased by her first husband, Lloyd Foster in 1945, a daughter, Bonnie Lynn Foster, two brothers, one sister, and a grandson.She is survived by her husband of 54 years, George Allen Kay of Kerrville, Texas five children, Bryan Foster of Harpswell, Maine, Craig Foster of Kerrville, Texas, Cheryl Lash of Trappe, Maryland, Marilyn Thompson of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Rebecca DeFraites of New Orleans, Louisiana. She is also survived by 14 granchildren, 14 greatgrandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of many loving friends and neighbors.Mrs. Kay was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had lived in Kerrville since 1982.A Memorial Service is planned by the family on June 4, 2005 at a location that will be announced later.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kerrville Garden Club Scholarship Fund or Peterson Hospice.Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Kerrville Funeral Home.
