KERRVILLE Dr. Melba Irene Forsberg, 90, passed from this life on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at a local hospital.
Melba was born on November 15, 1921 in Huntington, West Virginia to Grady and Orpha Yeager. She had a full and accomplished life. As a teen, she mastered the violin and played on the radio in Detroit, MI she was very musical also playing the organ and had a beautiful singing voice. Melba had two bachelor degrees, her masters and a doctorate and founded a junior college in New Mexico. She was very active in politics in California and fought for equality and womens rights. Melba was a licensed professional counselor and had a long running radio program which she started in the 1980s in San Francisco called Seek Me Early. As a radio minister she used her care and compassion to help others. She and her sister traveled the world together and visited places such as the Great Wall of China and the Egyptian pyramids they also went on several missionary trips to less fortunate countries. In 2000, Melba moved to Kerrville to be close to her family, and fell in love with the climate, views, and people of the hill country. Her hospitality and big heart will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, husband Hugh Charles Forsberg, and her brotherinlaw, Ottis R Hawkins.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her sister, Bettie Joy Hawkins of Kerrville brother, Dr. David Dale Yeager of Atlanta, GA seven nephews and nieces numerous great and greatgreat nephews and nieces cousins and other relatives and friends.
Interment will be in Cadillac Memorial Gardens West in Westland, Michigan.
