Mary Holt

Mary Jean Holt, 88, of Kerrville passed from this life on Wednesday June 26, 2019 at a local care facility. She was born on March 12, 1931 in Dallas, Texas to parents, Vernon and Thalia Louise Landry. Mary attended North Texas University until her marriage to Bobby Ray Holt on February 4, 1950.

Mary lived three years at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas before returning home to Dallas to assist Bobby, as he became a successful builder for 30 years. While in Dallas she worked for the Dallas County Tax office, H.B. Hughes District and was active at Urbandale Christian Church along with various school and civic organizations as the children were growing up.

In 1977, Mary moved to Rockwall, Texas where she enjoyed living on the lake and spending time with friends. She served on the board of Rockwall Chamber of Commerce, Rockwall Women's League and was elected to the Rockwall City Council for two terms.

Mary and Bobby moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1988 where they became licensed private investigators. Together they worked for various insurance companies and attorneys, this work resulted in some of the happiest days of their lives. Mary also worked at Treasure Chest Casino as a cashier for three years while doing investigations.

She traveled for over 50 years and loved being Bobby's navigator for all their years of flying until retiring and moving to Kerrville in 1996. In Kerrville, Mary stayed active working part time in the office at Point Theater, teaching computers at the Dietert Senior Center, attending and graduating from the Kerrville Citizen Police Academy and began working at the duty desk of the Kerrville Police Department one day a week. She was a member of the Silver Shoppers and had great fun playing the ukulele.

Mary was lucky enough to have a loving husband, children and grandchildren that made her life easier and happier. Just being with her family was the most wonderful thing in her life and she cherished every memory with them.

She is preceded in death by the her joy, blessing and husband of 61 years, Bobby Ray Holt and son, Steven Ray Holt.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include children, Sandra Jean Doyle and husband Keith, daughter-in law Carol Holt, Vernon Stacy Holt and wife Rebecca; grandchildren, Melanie D'ann Thompson, Morgan Doyle, Emma Sarah Holt, Leah Claire Holt along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends that will miss her dearly.

There will be no local services at this time.

The family requests memorials be made in Mary's name to Peterson Hospice of Kerrville.
