Kerrville, Texas Mrs. Mary Boyd Miss B beloved wife of Colonel U.S. Army, Retired William M. F. Boyd, passed away on Sunday evening, August 3, 2003, in Kerrville. She went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, following several medical complications associated with pneumonia. Mrs. Boyd was born Mary Ida Brinson, the first daughter of Arch and Elva Brinson, on January 16, 1919, in Providence, Kentucky. She graduated from Providence High School and attended college in Louisville, Kentucky. During World War II, Mrs. Boyd worked for the DuPont Corporation and was a background investigator for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, at which time she met her future husband Bill Boyd. They were married on June 5, 1943, and had just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Kerrville. Mary was a community service leader in all of their military assignments including Japan, Germany, Washington, D.C., Ft. Worth, Texas, St. Louis, Missouri, and Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. She received numerous commendations for her unselfish leadership and devotion to programs supporting dependent military wives and children during times of need and grief. One such commendation was presented by Mrs. Mamie Eisenhower, wife of then President Eisenhower, during Marys leadership of a Red Cross hospital organization known as The Gray Ladies in Heidelberg, Germany. After her career as a military spouse, Mary continued to serve civilian communities through her work with numerous womens civic organizations and her teaching of adult womens Sunday School classes at the Sagamore Hill Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, Texas. She is survived by her devoted husband Bill her dear sisterinlaw Mrs. Juel B. Hood of Starkville, Mississippi their son Colonel U.S. Army, Retired Michael Boyd and his wife Deborah of Huntsville, Alabama three daughters Mrs. Mary Ann Fine and her husband Jerry of Austin, Texas Mrs. Barbara Hurd and her husband Ron of Kila, Montana Mrs. Valerie Boyd Overall and her husband Doug of Arvada, Colorado her cousin Mr. Louis Kenneth Ethridge and his wife Gloria, of Newburgh, Indiana four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her very special friends Mrs. Gloria Smith, Ms. Linda Rosenbaum, Ms. Carol J. White, and numerous other friends and neighbors. Family visitation will be at the Kerrville Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, August 6, 2003, from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be conducted at the Kerrville Funeral Home on Thursday, August 7, 2003, at 11 AM. Interment will be at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2 PM that .
