Kerrville Mary Ann Austin, age 71, went to be with the Lord on August 6, 2005. Mary Ann was born on April 13, 1934 in Binghamton, New York to C. Greer and Helena J. Yount. She was a loving Mother and wife and was very active in her church and community. Happy and fulfilled in her life, she was always excited by achieving new friendships and the opportunities that each new day could bring. Her inspiration, enthusiasm for life, and her genuine interest and concern for others will be deeply missed. Mary Ann attended Grier School in Tyron, PA, where she excelled in academics and received awards in Equestrian events. While attending Fairfax Hall a Junior College in Waynesboro Virginia, Mary Anns life long strengths of intelligence, beauty, poise, and grace, were acknowledged when she was crowned May Queen. Mary Ann graduated in 1954 with a degree in Secretarial Sciences. February 1956 she obtained an appointment within the Federal Government and was assignment to Frankfurt Germany. While in Germany, Mary Ann met the love of her life, Mel Austin on Valentines Day 1956. They were married in Frankfurt Germany, August 4th, 1956. Later in her career, Mary Ann and Mel relocated to San Antonio Texas where she completed 18 years with Southwest Research Institute retiring in 1985.After achieving their goal of early retirement, they spent the next 10 years full time RVing and making many new friends across the Southwestern United States. Afterwards, Mary Ann and Mel purchased a home in Show Low Arizona high in the White Mountains. For the next 10 years they traveled between Ingram Texas and Show Low enjoying the very of each other in retirement.Mary Ann was an active member in the Kerrville Church of Christ and was involved in a wide variety of interests, volunteering and helping others in the community. Mary Ann and Mel just celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.Her parents C. Greer and Helena J. Yount predeceased her. She is survived by her husband, Melvin W. Austin, her children Michael G. Austin and wife Lucy Robinson and Mark W. Austin her grandchildren, Mark W. Austin Jr., and Kevin L. Austin also by her sister, Greneta Blasky, along with a host of many loving friends and neighbors.A visitation is scheduled from 6 8 PM, Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at Kerrville Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Mrs. Austin will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at the Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel, 1221 Junction Highway, Kerville, Texas 78028 with Greg Cummings, Minister of Kerrville Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at 2 PM, Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Austins name can be made to the American Lung Association and the American Cancer Society.Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Kerrville Funeral Home.
