KERRVILLE Marvin Daniel Gazaway, 81, of Ingram, TX, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at a local care center. Marvin, known as quotGazquot to many, was born July 11, 1931 in Utopia, TX to Ira Daniel and Ida Leona Porter Gazaway.

quotGazquot grew up in Utopia and graduated from Utopia High School in 1948. He went to South West Texas Jr. College in Uvalde and then began a job at Petty Geophysical Co. doing seismograph work. He married Betty June Hawkins on October 6, 1951 in Sabinal, TX. That same year he joined the Army, had his basic training at Camp Gordon, Georgia, and was stationed at Ft. Monmouth, NJ. He was then sent to Korea and was a radio operator in a prisoner of war camp. He received a Good Conduct Medal, a Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, a National Defense Service Medal as well as a United Nations Service Medal. Upon returning to the states he settled back in Kerrville with his family.

He first worked for Fletchers Electric and then as a nurses aide at the Kerrville VA Hospital. In 1963, he began work as a letter carrier for the Kerrville USPS. Those he served on his route knew him to be a caring, talkative, and helpful person. He retired from the USPS in 1988.

quotGazquot served in many volunteer capacities beginning with the Kerrville Volunteer Fire Department in 1953. Since 1974, when he moved his family to Ingram, he has served with the Ingram Volunteer Fire Department where he was a member up to his death and rose to the rank of Captain. Many of the fire trucks and other equipment obtained by the Ingram Volunteer Fire Department were obtained by grants that he wrote so that they might have better equipment. He was also a volunteer weather observer for the National Weather Service. He volunteered at Ingram Elementary School for many years, was instrumental in the building of the Ingram City Park, and was on the Ingram City Council. Mr. Gazaway was named the 2007 West Kerr Citizen of the Year. If something needed to be done, then he was usually the one doing it.

Mr. Gazaway is preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Leona Gazaway sister, Pauline Robinson and his loving wife, Betty June Gazaway.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his children, Danny Gazaway, and wife Rebecca of Houston, TX, Ronny Gazaway, and wife Lynn of Kerrville, TX, and Tammy Landin of Ingram, TX grandchildren, Brian and Rachel Gazaway of Houston, TX, Wesley Gazaway of Lakewood, WA, Andrea Brunelli, and husband Patrick of Kerrville, TX, Danielle Gazaway of Kerrville, TX, and Justin Gazaway of Ingram, TX 5 greatgrandchildren his honorary children, Butch, Diana, and Bart Baccus also survive him along with many extended family members, neighbors and friends.

ation will be held from 9 11 AM, Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Kerrville Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Ingram Volunteer Fire Department, officiated by Honorable Bill Ragsdale. Interment with full military honors presented by the Vietnam Veterans Association will follow at Nichols Cemetery in Ingram, TX.

Pallbearers to serve will be members of the Ingram Volunteer Fire Department.

In lieu of floral tributes, memorials may be made to the Ingram Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of ones choice.
