Born in Langhorne, PA on October 10, 1929, he was the son of Cornelius A and Marguerite Douglas Emmons.
He served in the US Airforce stationed at Lackland AFB. He always said he wanted to return to the San Antonio area after his retirement.
On August 23, 1951 in Buffalo, NY he married his beloved wife, Betty Mae Job. They would have celebrated 58 years of marriage this year.
He was a marine biologist and had his own company, Emmons Marine Biological for science specimens, in NJ, for many years.
Mr. Emmons was a quintessential teacher, spending his entire life teaching others. He started a summer education camp that taught marine biology to children in NJ.
He always established goals and followed them through. One of these goals was to sail across the Atlantic Ocean, which he did with his wife. After which, they spent the next 3 years in the Mediterranean.
Mr. Emmons was a strong Christian and was very involved in the Hunt United Methodist Church, where he worked with the 3H of the church. He also taught English as a second language.
A businessman and a pilot, Mr. Emmons played the bagpipes, was loving, caring and had a great sense of humor.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Betty Mae Job Emmons of Kerrville his children, Marguerite Belec and her husband James, of Ingram, Lydia Olsen and her husband Al of Hallsville, TX, and Douglas B. Emmons and his wife Camille Robertson, of Kona HI 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
There is no visitation.
A Celebration of his life will be held at the Hunt United Methodist Church, Hunt, on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 10:00AM, with Rev. Sam Hunnicutt officiating.
In lieu of floral arrangements, the family asks that monetary donations in his name be made to the Hunt United Methodist Church.
