Martha was a thirdgeneration Houstonian, who loved Texas and Texans, passed from this life Wednesday morning, September 19, 2007. Her parents were Sam Ross Hay, Jr. and Gessner Lane. She grew up in Houston, attended Lanier and Lamar, and graduated from the University of Texas, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta. While in Houston, she was a member of the Blue Bird Circle and a charter member of St. Phillips United Methodist Church. She rode horses, swam, and played tennis from her days as a camper at Waldemar and Arrowhead and at the Houston Racquet Club until she was in her seventies. In 1982, she moved to Hunt and, after 2001, lived in Austin and San Antonio.She was married to George Morgan Keith from 1943 until his accidental death in 1979. She is survived by their four children, their spouses, and grandchildren: Sam Hay Keith Hali Hartmann, Edward Lane Keith, George Morgan Keith, Jr. Bonnie Trotto Keith Emily and Morgan, and Mary Alice Kuse Kendall Kuse Hannah and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her sister Mary Lane Hay Chmelik of Hunt, Texas and Marys two daughters, Nancy and Frances.Martha served on the Hunt school board from 1988 to 2001 and with the Hunt Volunteer Fire Department. She was an active member of the Hunt United Methodist Church. She was once recognized as Citizen of the Year in West Kerr County. The family sincerely appreciates how the community, including old friends and new, embraced Martha during her stay of almost 20 years. A memorial service will be held at the Hunt United Methodist Church, today, September 22, 2007 at 3PM. Burial was in Hunt Japonica Cemetery.She requested that any commemorative donations be made to either the Hunt School or the Hunt United Methodist Church.
