Martha Detman

Martha Brinkley Detman, 98, passed away November 4, 2013 at Silverado Senior Living in Sugar Land, Texas of natural causes following a long and loving life.

Martha was born to John and Katherine Brinkley in Gause, Texas on March 24, 1915. She was raised in Baytown, Texas as one of five children as her father worked to construct the Humble now ExxonMobil refinery. She later worked there in the Human Resources department operating the computer system that managed the payroll. It was there that she met her late husband Roger F. Detman. She and Roger lived through the war years often traveling across country to meet as Roger served in the US Army Signal Corps. Following the war, Martha and Roger started their family and in 1951, the family moved to South Pasadena, California where Roger had accepted an offer with C F Braun Co.

Their lives were enriched by their travels and engagement with others in their community and Martha was active in the PTA as on officer, Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, and organized encounter groups and weekly bridge luncheons with her close friends. She backpacked in the mountains above San Bernardino and the Sierra Nevada including hiking to the summit of several peaks such as Mt. Whitney. She became an avid golfer and at one time belonged to three golf clubs. She supported the Far Western Golf Association as a Rules Official for tournaments in Southern California.

Upon Rogers retirement, they moved to Kerrville, Texas and lived there until Rogers death in 2007. While there she continued building friendships and engaging in group activities including a book club and bridge group. She also supported the Kerrville Nature Center.

Martha is survived by her two sons, Thomas Roger Detman and Douglas Todd Detman, and grandchildren Gary Detman, Brian Detman, and Michelle Daley.
