Comfort Mr. Mark Walkenhorst, 53, of Comfort, TX passed from this life at his home surrounded by his family on December 30, 2011.
Born on December 5, 1958 in North Platte, NE, he was the son of Dale E. and Mary Moyer Walkenhorst. He had been a resident of Comfort for the past 6 years. He had been a resident of Boone, IA and Madison NE.
On February 14, 1998, he married Penny Hansen in Valentine, NE.
Mark was a graduate of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa with a Bachelors degree in Science.
A man of honor and beliefs, he would become a wonderful volunteer in any community he lived in. For 15 plus years, he coached little league in Boone, Iowa and was a member and very active in the AAU. He coached both is sons and many other children, teaching them that its not important to win the game, but to work together as a team and have fun. Many of these children have benefited throughout the years, carrying these beliefs with them. One of his passions in life was sports.
Mark was a great lover of dogs and always made room in his home for one more stray.
He served on school boards in Nebraska, was the president of Countryside Nursing Home and was a member of quot Of The Parkquot in Madison, NE.
Mark was loved by all and would enjoy making everyone laugh with his sense of humor.
In 2005, Mark and Penny moved to Comfort and bought the RV Park USA. This gave him the chance to meet new lifelong friends and spend time with Penny. He loved Comfort with all his heart.
Mark was met at the Heavenly Gate by his beloved mother, who passed in Lincoln, NE on December 15, 2011.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife of 13 years, Penny Hansen Walkenhorst his sons, Adam Walkenhorst and his fianceacute Rose Rieger, of Des Moines, IA, Ben Walkenhorst of San Antonio, TX and Chad Hansen of Boone, IA his granddaughter, Lily Alvarez of Des Moines, IA his father, Dale E. Walkenhorst of Lincoln, NE his brother, Wade Walkenhorst of Lincoln, NE his sisters, Jan Mach of Pleasant Dale, NE and Sara Abeln of Charlotte, NC along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on January 6, 2012 at 11AM at the RV Park USA Club House.
The family suggests that donations in his name be made to the Jimmy V Foundation at www.jimmyv.org, the Boone, IA Little League or to the Kendall County Animal Shelter.
