KERRVILLE- Maria Elena "Helen" Paiz was born on February 3, 1921 in Guerrero, Tamaulipas, Mexico and was brought to Texas by her family at the age of 12. She passed away peacefully on June 16, 2015 in Kerrville, Texas at the age of 94.

She spent her early years in South Texas on the family ranch in Escobas, Texas and she was the youngest of six surviving children of Alfredo and Clotilde Perez. Her twin sister, Maria del Socorro, died at birth. She shared a loving relationship with her siblings, Rafaela (J.C.) Trammell, Antonino (Refugia) Perez, Alfredo ( Petra) Perez, Adelfa (Abel) Perez and Amelia (Luis) Garcia who are all now deceased.

Maria Elena married Joseph Peter Perkins on October 19,1941 in Edcouch, Texas, and they had one son, Herbert Albert (Sonny) Perkins. After moving to Galveston, she met and married Donald Everett "Red" McCorkle. She and "Red" loved to travel and entertain family and friends, and subsequently settled in Kerrville, Texas. They were married for 41 years prior to his passing in 1991, and were among the first residents in Vicksburg Village in Kerrville. Maria Elena again found a loving companion, and married Ascension Paiz in 1993. They spent many happy years dancing at several venues around Kerrville, and even won a dancing competition sponsored by the Senior Games in Kerrville prior to his passing in 2007. Everyone who knew her, knew she loved to dance and to entertain friends and family.

Maria Elena leaves behind her loving and devoted son, Herbert and his wife, Rose Marie of Kerrville, Texas. She also leaves behind her beloved grandson, Herbert Eric, and two great- grandsons, Evan Alexander and Everett Maxwell of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many extended family members and friends, in particular, her close friend and caretaker, Ruth Swanson.

She was a active member of Notre Dame Catholic Church and a had a strong and abiding faith in her Lord. A rosary and visitation will be held at 6 PM on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Hwy, Kerrville, TX to honor her memory. A private interment will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.

The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice.
