Margaret Shaifer

Margaret (Peggy) Ruth Shaifer, 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, in Kerrville, Texas.
Margaret was born on November 12, 1922, in El Paso, Texas, to the late James Lynn Snell and Hazel Flint Snell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Edward F. Shaifer, and two of her children, Judith Ann Minton and Pattie Ruth Minton. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara J. (Buffy) Minton of Scottsdale, Arizona, grandchildren Brant Brown (and wife, Heidi), and Teal Henkel (and husband, Chad), great grandchildren, Gannon Brown, Noah Brown, Lucy Marie Brown, and Hattie Henkel, and step son Owen Roberts Shaifer.
My Mom, ''Peggy'' Shaifer, Please forgive me if I brag. Because she had a bone disease her doctor told her Mom and Dad that at 4 years old, she needed to get up on her toes. Special Pink Satin toe shoes were made for her and thus Peggy began to dance ballet at 4 years old. When she was 16 years old, she taught ballet. When she was at Austin High School in El Paso, she was voted ''Most Popular Girl'' at Austin High School. She was a great Cheerleader and cared more about the game than ''being prissy''. Mom was never vain or snotty or selfish or manipulative. She was creative, beautiful, artistic, kind and loved life, her husband (my father), Warren A. Minton, and loved Edward F. Shaifer, my beloved stepfather. She was voted the Carnival Queen of Ft. Stockton. MGM (from Hollywood) came to El Paso with Talent Scouts and chose my Mom to go to Hollywood for a big movie contract - Look out Betty Grable!! Her Mom said NO!! Every holiday and any excuse to celebrate, Mom thoroughly enjoyed, and she was a fabulous Cook. She made her own clothes through High School and made most of our clothes when we were growing up. I remember every single outfit she made for me.
She and Edward (2nd husband) loved competition Ball Room dance. They loved opera and their beloved dogs. They got to travel after Edward retired, bought a 35 foot Winnebago, a brand new Ford Bronco, put a tow bar on the back of the Winnebago and off they went. Their favorite State (and adventure) was Alaska. Stories of how they rented a private plane and flew into a remote area where there was the ''most wonderful trout fishing ever!'' They also went salmon fishing as they camped out under the magical Alaska night sky. As Kipling wrote in his Poem, ''they'' filled the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds of distance ''Well Run''. Mom was also a juried artist - her work was colorful and beautiful-and so much Soul and Meaning.

Graveside services and interment will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2019, officiated by Frankie Enloe. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Hill Country Arts Foundation (Visual Art Department) or the charity of your choice.
