KERRVILLE Margaret Peggy Elizabeth Kieberger Martin, 82, of Kerrville, TX passed away June 28, 2012. She was born in Aransas Pass, TX on November 10, 1929 to William Alfred and Grace Burns Kieberger.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 57 years, John Martin her son, David Martin and his wife, Cathy grandsons, Michael and Dustin Martin sister in law, Ann Martin Phenicie along with many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Vince Martin and 3 older siblings, Mary Kieberger Fortner, William Kieberger, and Grace Kieberger.
Peggy grew up in Aransas Pass, being very involved in high school activities and playing clarinet in the band. Several years after graduating, she moved to Houston and worked as a secretary for one of the vice presidents at Tennessee Gas. In 1955, she married John Martin and together they raised 2 sons. She became a full time home maker, cherishing her relationship with her boys as they grew up. She volunteered in their class rooms, the school office and library. She lead their Cub Scout den and cheered her sons on at sporting, school events, and church events.
Peggy was an excellent cook and very inclusive and gracious in entertaining neighbors, friends and family, for gatherings, holidays and special occasions. Her favorite holiday tradition was hosting the Christmas Eve open house for extended family. She especially loved seeing the young nephews and nieces and watching them grow between each gathering. She treasured her friends and made every effort to keep in touch. She especially enjoyed her morning walks and talks with her neighbors. She served as the secretary for the Sunset Terrace Garden Club for many years, was a longtime member of the Sunset Terrace Montclaire Civic Club, and volunteered numerous hours for the Christian Community Service Organization.
Peggy found great comfort and faith in St. Annes Catholic Church in Houston, TX. She was very active over the years in various groups in the church, most notably in the altar guild and as a Eucharistic minister, taking communion to the home bound. When they moved to Kerrville in 2001, she joined Notre Dame Catholic Church and so appreciated those that brought her communion as she had done in her healthier years.
Special thanks to the caregivers and nurses that went over and above to care for Peggy. Each of your gifts and talents touched Peggy, and your compassion will always be remembered by her family.
