Lynda was a very positive person who always had a smile on her face. She loved to sing while she was doing chores, either inside the house or out in the yard. She could fix anything and loved the challenge of doing it. The holidays were her favorite time of year because she loved to decorate . . . And she decorated everything! She was a very upbeat person who always made you feel better about yourself. She will be greatly missed.

Lynda was born in Johnson City, NY to Mildred and Clyde Peters, and was raised in Binghamton; N.Y. Lynda was an accomplished athlete, dancer, and musician. While in high school, she played oboe for the Binghamton City Opera Co.

After graduating high school, Lynda attended Kings College in Briarcliff, N.Y. While on semester break her senior year, she drove her brother, Larry, to the Marine recruiting office. To Lynda's mother's dismay, the recruiter also talked Lynda into signing up, where she served in San Diego, and Larry served in Viet Nam.

Following the military, she worked for the Federal Civil Service in Project Transition, helping returning military with employment and schooling. She then worked for the Post Office.

Using her GI Bill, Lynda returned to school and received a degree in Diesel Technology. She worked for Watson & Meehan Cummins in San Francisco, as a training manager for Northern California. She then worked for Santa Clara County Transit as a Training Mechanic Supervisor. After receiving her Teaching Credentials, she also taught at San Jose City College.

In 1989, Lynda and Arlene decided to leave the bay area and move to a farm in North East Pennsylvania, to start a bed and breakfast. Winters got to be a bit much, so they decided to move to the beautiful Texas Hill country.

Ozzie came into Lynda's life in 2004 and they've been inseparable ever since. She trained him to be a therapy dog, and they participated in AKC agility, rally, obedience, and scent detection. She was Ozzie's trainer when he played "Toto" in Playhouse 2000's "The Wizard of Oz".

Lynda is survived by her sister Shirley Peters; by her longtime companion, Arlene Wheaton; and her forever faithful Cairn Terrier, Ozzie Wizard of Oz. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Florida.

Special thanks to all her friends who visited, sent cards and brought flowers. They were so appreciated.

I would like to thank some special angels who have been with Lynda on her very long fight against cancer: Dr. Melissa George and staff; and Dr. Mark DeLeon and staff.

There are some very personal angels who have been at the side of Lynda and Arlene during the past few months: Bill and Lonnie Vaughan; Jeff and Marty Broad; and Judy Haynes.

I would like to thank the entire staff that worked with Lynda at Alpine Terrace. They gave her excellent care; and the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their kindness.

Lynda is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Donald Peters; John "Jack" Peters; Sgt. Lawrence D. Peters, MOH; and Ralph Peters.
